Ok guys, I just finished analzyzing all the data. Looks good! I found a few correlations and such that I will talk to you guys about later on. We should also look into our presentation and how we are going to do that. I'll see you guys in class!

November 29th, 2005

So guys...I guess right now I'm the slacker of the group which is awful bc I have never been in this kind of position. I am working on figuring out what I am going to do, I'm just having a hard time knowing exactly what to focus on bc it seems that my part is based off of all of yours for the most part. I just sent an email to some woman over there at the preview office about what kind of warning they give about facebook. Hopefully I'll get something from that, and I am also hoping to get something out of my myspace profile I created although it seems to be the part of the project that isn't happening anymore. Let me know about that I guess. So basically, I cant wait for the meeting bc I need to talk to you guys badly and figure out what the heck i'm doing. Ok, enough!

Since we last posted up a journal on the 20th, i'm going to post today, giving my two cents on what's going on my part of the project. I agree with what Vanessa put in her journal and we definately need to put everything on the table to be organized and be over with, so we can focus on what we're going to do for our class presentatiton. Thanksgiving week has put me in perspective on what i need to do, but as a group i also feel a little disorganized. Perhaps it might be since we have not seen eachother in a while. Though i did not have a computer and internet access at my house this last week, i decided to be a good student and head to my local neighborhood library to do more research on the History of Web-Communities. I found an impressive amount of information about them in general, but i think i need more scholarly sources. I updated my wiki page a little bit to show what i have looked up, but since i haven't had much time with a computer i have not gotten around to finishing it up, yet...By Wednesday (Nov. 30) i should be done.

~Tennison

P.S. I say we arrange the meeting for Wednesday evening, during our class time.

So after Ms. Martins talk about the wiki project in class, I am pretty much freaking out. I really dont like how everything we do is on the wiki. I know it is pretty basic and easy to work, but I don't find it that easy, and most time frustrating to work on. And so, it really keeps me from coming on it as much as I should.

Nonetheless, it is the project and it has to be done.

I did my interview, and I think it went ok. The guys are really just into business, and so that is why they started the site. So much of what they told me was nothing new, as i thought most of the same things. However, they did point out some interesting things. I will let you guys know all about the interview in person.

Should I write a whole paper based off the interview? Personally i would liek to go over throughly what everyone is doing again.

I'm feeling overwhelmed, and a bit lost, and... it's giving me a headache.

What are we doing for meeting this week?

We all need to chat, and I hope it happens soon.

Vanessa

SO....group meeting last night went very well....got a lot done. And now I know I'm doing the impact part of the paper, so that's a good bit of info to have. It was great seeing everyone outside of class at Stephen's homebase (ON THE BORDER)....or wait, I guess it's more Tennison's homebase, since he's from Mexico...HA! Excited about filling out the survey!!!

Yyyello! Alrighty I finished up most of the survey, I should have it copied and ready to give out to you guys on Wednesday. I will try very hard to send you guys an email tomorrow perhaps with the final survey attached. I want you guys to proofread it and tell me if there is anything to add. Also thank you very much for the input for the survey it really helped. I know it sounds dorky but I'm really excited about doing this survey part, it should be interesting!

Questions for Interview:

How do you think your website changes how people socially interact with eachother?

Do you think that online social communities in general can distort the way people feel about social interaction?

What are the benefits of using your site?

What are the drawbacks of using your site?

Do you think that online social networking is a passing fad or is here to stay?

...So that was my list-o-idears. Welp, I guess I better hit the dusty trail, see you guys tomorrow!

Update Heres the final Survey!

Just thought I would go over some questionns i was thinking about for the interview and the questionaire.

Interview:

What made you want to start a site liek this?

What kind of research did you do before creating it?

What effected the decisions on the kinds of elements to include on the site?

What kind of safety precautions have you taken for your memebers?

Do you think putting out so much information is a safety issue?

What are your goals for this site?

How does this site differ from others?

--That's all i have for right now. Let me know what you guys think, what questions you have, and what kind of questions will help our hypothesis the most.

Here are some for the questionaire:

Why did you join an online community?

How do you feel you are benefitting by being a member?

Do you feel safe?

Have you ever been harassed by another user on teh site?

Have you ever met anyone from a site who you would have never met otherwise?

Is there anyone you have lost a relationship with due to contents posted on a site?

How do you decide how much to reveal of yourself through your profile?

What aspects determines that?

--I think these are some interesting questions. I dont know if they help with a hypothesis, but some of them could lead into some interesting stuff.

I really hope our research turns out successfully. It seems like with the help of Stephens professor we can really handle this in a professional way.

Hope you guys have a great weekend, and Kate, hope you had a super b-day.

Good luck with your reviews & see ya on monday!

Group meeting today at Tennison's casa. We wrote up the topic proposal and planned out how we will write our reviews due on Wednesday. We decided the profiles each of us will use on myspace as well. We started looking up new and upcomming communities, like Whatsupbuddy.com, Yafro.com, and Campusstew.com. We also started some searches for articles on web communities, and found a paper that had a good works cited page. We will need to find a better way to look for articles and credible sources to get good information to back up our ideas. We also have decided to break down everythign and assign each person a specific area to work on, so that everyone is doing an equal amount of work. We have also decided to do our reviews on some sort of online community. That way we can write our reviews for class, and do some good research for the wiki project. We are also going ot On the Border and using Stephen for his 50% off perk. Yum-o.
